Lottery Qualification Requirements

You can now either read through this page about the qualifications needed to enter the green card lottery. Or you can take our free online assessment of your qualifications. Green cards are usually only issued to a small group of selected people through a complicated and expensive process. However, for persons entering the green card lottery most of these restrictions have been removed.

Persons wishing to participate in the lottery only need to meet two basic criteria:

1.    You must be born in an eligible
       country as defined by the
       US government.

       Current nationality and/or residency is

       not considered for this program.

Only your place of birth is considered.

Currently all countries in the world are eligible except the following: Brazil, Canada, China, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Inida, Jamaica, Mexico, Pakistan, Peru, Phillipines, Poland, Russia, South-Korea, United Kingdom, and Vietnam. If you were born in one of the above listed countries, please click here for

       •  a high school education (12 years)

           or an equivalent or

       •  two years of work experience in a

           US-recognized profession.

If you are not sure whether you meet those qualifications, please take the free online assessment or contact us.

It should be noted that despite widespread rumors, to participate

in this program there are not any requirements regarding:

  • Any family relationships in the United States
